KEO appointed for MBZ infrastructure design

The local office of KEO International Consultantshas been appointed as the infrastructure design consultant for three parcels of land at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed City (MBZ), being developed by Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities & Agriculture (DMA) on the Abu Dhabi-Al-Ain highway.

Once fully developed, the three parcels will have 271 high-rise structures and will occupy 5-8 per cent of the new city's total area. Submissions for the city's masterplan are currently under review, but it is understood that once completed the city will cover an area of about 20 square kilometres.

An award is imminent on another parcel within the city, for a residential complex's piling, shoring excavation and dewatering contract. Bidders for the piling contract are understood to include Germany's Bauerand Middle East Foundationsand NSCC, both local. The client, a joint venture of the local Link Investmentswith First Gulf Bank, is seeking expressions of interest for the main construction package, which is expected to go for tender by mid-December. Abu Dhabi-based Bainona & Al-BayatyArchitectsis the design consultant. The US' Morgantiis the project manager (MEED 11:11:05).
