KEO wins design work for four Abu Dhabi projects

New schemes are planned by Aabar and Urban Planning Council

The local office of KEO International Consultants has been selected to provide designs for four separate sites in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi-based Aabar Properties has appointed the consultant to produce concept and detailed designs for a mixed-use development on Abu Dhabi’s Al-Reem Island.

Although the project is still in the early stages, a source close to the project confirmed the 22-storey Najmat Abu Dhabi will incorporate residential, office and retail space, and will be located in the centre of the island’s Najmat Marina.

Aabar Properties declined to comment on a timeframe for tenders or construction schedule.

Elsewhere in the capital, the Urban Planning Council awarded KEO the design for public realm space for the Khalifa City A, Khalifa City B and Mohammed bin Zayed City residential districts.

All of the districts fall within larger masterplans designed by KEO in 2009. Located southeast of Abu Dhabi island, the districts lie adjacent to Emerald Gateway, Capital City and South of Shamka.

The design was completed by KEO’s department of strategy, planning and urban development. The contract includes all of the landscaping, hardscaping and greenery in the three districts. The project brief also requires a cohesive plan for public areas including parks, bus stops and playgrounds.

KEO appointed US-based EDSA as subconsultant and landscape adviser on the public realm projects.
