Consultant will oversee the construction of two major construction projects

The local office of KEO International Consultants has been selected to supervise the construction of the two recently awarded sports halls projects in Qatar.

KEO will work for the Qatar Olympic Committee on the Al-Thumama and Al-Sadd sports stadiums. Contractors were named to build the facilities in January.

Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) won the estimated QR1.15bn ($315m) contract to build the Al-Thumama sports hall, and Greece’s Aktor won the contract to build the Al-Sadd sports hall.

The Al-Thumama sports hall will be built at the future Olympic park at Lusail, on vacant land in close proximity to the road that connects Doha’s West Bay with Al-Khor, close to Qatar Shooting Association and the Lusail racing circuit.

The project involves building a 19,132-seater multi-purpose hall with 16,432 fixed and 2,700 retractable seats for basketball, volleyball and handball games. It will have a basement and five above-ground levels, with a mezzanine between the ground and the first floor. The built-up area will cover 107,650 square metres.

The Al-Sadd multi-purpose hall will be located close to the Al-Waab intersection in Doha. The multi-purpose sports hall has been designed for basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton and gymnastics, with a total seating capacity of 7,500. The hall will have a total built-up area of 52,200 sq m and will consist of five levels and basement car parking.
