Kier/Leighton JV selected for City of Arabia infrastructure

19 May 2006

The UK/Australian joint venture (JV) of Kier Dubai and Leighton Gulf has been selected for the infrastructure works at the $2,000 million City of Arabia development in Dubailand. The contract, understood to be worth more than AED 200 million ($54 million), involves the construction of the development's internal roadworks and the installation of underground services.

Tendering is under way for a number of other packages on the City of Arabia project. Bids are due in on 26 June for the Mall of Arabia package - four groups are understood to have prequalified. Bids are already in for the people mover and are awaited for the first Wadi Walk buildings package (MEED 5:5:06).

The local Middle East Foundations has completed the piling works for the entire project, which includes the mall and 34 mixed-use towers.

Hong Kong-based P&T Architects & Engineers is the engineering and design consultant, the UK's Hyder Consulting is the infrastructure consultant and the US' Hill International is the project manager. The local I&M Galadari Group is the client.
