Overview

The Seaport is one of the six developments that make up the 55 million square metre (sq m) King Abdullah Economic City megaproject in Saudi Arabia, near Jeddah.

On the Red Sea coast, the port will be the largest in the region, with the ability to dock the world’s largest ships. It will cover an area of 14 million sq m and have a capacity of over 20 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers a year. It will have facilities to handle cargo and dry bulk and due to its close proximity to Mecca and Medina, will have a dedicated Hajj terminal that can receive over 500,000 pilgrims.

This phase of the project includes: a port building, cargo terminal, container terminal, marine works, harbour and container buildings, control tower, cargo buildings and infrastructure, port and marine equipment including cargo lifters, tractors, forklifts, tugs and other boats, port roads, water & electricity distribution, crane rails, car park, Hajj terminal, hotels, medical centres and associated facilities.
