Bids have been invited by 15 November from seven prequalifiers for the main construction contract on the King Hamad general hospital project in Muharraq. The estimated BD 28 million ($74 million) scheme calls for the construction of a 312-bed facility, built to allow for an expansion to about 500 beds at a later date. Completion is scheduled for 2007. Australian Hospital Design Group drew up the designs; client responsibility is shared between the Works & Housing Ministry and the Health Ministry (MEED 29:4:05).
