Nearly all of the kingdom’s eight cement suppliers are planning expansions. Southern Province Cement Companyis considering a 4,000-5,000-t/d expansion. Yanbu Cement Companyis expected to issue a tender for the contract to build a new 7,000-t/d line. Tabuk Cement Companyis considering a 500,000-tonne-a-year (t/y) expansion.
MEED also understands that a local group has been awarded a licence to produce cement and is planning to build a new 4,000-t/d cement plant on a greenfield site north of the city.
In late October, work started on an SR 879 million ($234 million) expansion of the Qassim Cement Companyplant at Buraidah (MEED 7:11:03).
In early July, Eastern Province Cement Companysigned two contracts for the SR 400 million ($107 million) project to install a new cement line (see Special Report, page 42; MEED 11:7:03).
