South Korean firm will build two gas pipelines from Kirkuk field by September 2014
Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) has been awarded a $127m contract to build two gas pipelines in the north of Iraq.
Oil Ministry officials announced the award on 5 October. The contract signing ceremony with Iraq’s Oil Pipelines Company (OPC) is due before the end of October, according to a company statement.
Technical bids were submitted in late January by 14 firms, followed by commercial proposals in July. Bidders include:
The state-owned South Korean firm will build two 110-kilometre pipelines connecting a gas processing plant at the Kirkuk field in the north of Iraq to the Salah al-Din refinery near Baiji by September 2014. One pipeline will be 18 inches in diameter, carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG), while the other is a 16-inch dry gas pipeline.
