Project in line with Defence Ministry’s modernisation programme

  • Solutions to be deployed at Ahmed al-Jaber Airbase and Ali-Salem Airbase
  • Navaids to allow all-weather tactical and en-route navigation and approach services

France’s Thales has won a contract to supply advanced navigation solutions at Kuwait’s two major military airbases.

The solution, called Thales Navaids, will be deployed at the Ahmed al-Jaber Airbase and the Ali-Salem Airbase. It will enable the airbases to provide all-weather tactical and en-route navigation and approach services that comply with the highest standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Thales says these solutions have been deployed by several airbases as well as major airports across the Middle East.

The GCC has been ramping up security spending over the past year to address both international and domestic terror threats.

Kuwait is understood to be in the final stages of closing a $9bn deal for the procurement of 28 Eurofighter jets.

In addition to increased investment in surveillance and military aircraft, warships and weapons, both civilian airports and military airbases are being upgraded to cope with rising travel demand and to achieve higher levels of security.
