Kuwait extends deadline for university package

29 June 2011

Deadline for faculty project extended to 3 July

Kuwait University has extended the bid deadline for the contract to build the College of Business and College of Women at its new $3bn Sabah al-Salem campus to 3 July.

The previous deadline was 19 June. It is understood that the deadline was extended to allow contractors more time to submit bids.

The university has prequalified 12 groups for the contract to build the buildings at the new campus, which will be located at Shadadiyah, 20km west of Kuwait City.

The approximate built-up floor area of the College of Women is expected to be 117,000 square metres and the College of Business will be 124,700 sq m.

The faculty buildings project is one of a number of contracts that the university has tendered in recent months.

Kuwait’s Central Tenders Committee (CTC) recently approved the award of two contracts worth a total of KD51m ($185m) to the local First Kuwait Trading & Contracting Company for building service tunnels for Kuwait University at its Sabah al-Salem campus.

One contract involves building a service tunnel at the east side of the campus and the other is for the construction of a tunnel at the west side.

The scope of works for each project will involve the construction of the main tunnel and branch tunnels, escape stairs and ramps, tunnel connections to the bottom of the faculty buildings and all other associated building work (MEED 1:7:11).
