Kuwaiti cabinet has approved appointment of undersecretary and assistant undersecretary

Kuwait’s cabinet has approved the appointment of a new undersecretary and a new assistant undersecretary for the Public Works Ministry.

At a meeting in the last week of March, the cabinet approved the appointment Awatef al-Ghoneim as undersecretary of the Public Works Ministry and the appointment of Walid al-Ghanem as assistant undersecretary. The two appointments have been passed to the Kuwaiti Emir for final endorsement.

Al-Ghomeim has replaced the recently retired Abdulaziz al-Kulaib, who had been the ministry’s undersecretary since 1984.

The ministry oversees the construction and maintenance of Kuwait’s public buildings and key infrastructure, from roads and bridges to hospitals and sewage networks.

The Public Works Ministry is currently working on plans for 507 kilometres of new roads. The first of these projects is the first section of the North Road, which will have a length of 189km and 21 intersections. The second project is the improvment of the Salmi Highway, which will involve building 102km of new highway and 13 intersections.

The Nuwaseeb Road is the third project, which will involve building 126km of highway and 14 intersections. The final project will involve improving the first part of the seventh ring road. The work will involve building 90km of new roads and 18 intersections
