Project is part of Kuwait's ambitious 2030 renewable energy target

Kuwait’s Public Authority for Industry (PAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with local firms Equate Petrochemical Company and the National Technology Enterprise Company (NTEC) to install a rooftop solar facility on the PAI office.

The project will form part of Kuwait’s target for 15 per cent of power to be produced from renewable energy sources by 2030.

In 2014, the Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW) commissioned a rooftop solar system on its headquarters building, which can provide up to 1MW of electricity during peak periods.

Kuwait is also pushing ahead with plans to install larger utility-scale solar plants.

In September, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) issued tender documents for its planned 1GW Al-Dibdah photovoltaic (PV) solar project.

The project, which is to be tendered under an engineering, procurement and construction plus finance (EPC+F) contract, has attracted the interest of major regional and international developers and contractors.

The client has set a submission date of 16 December for the project.
