Kuwait University has invited prequalified firms to bid by 11 December for the contract to build roads and bridges for the Sabah al-Salem University’s Medical Campus.
MEED understands eight mostly local firms have been shortlisted to bid for the contract. They are:
- Combined Group Contracting
- Alghanim International
- Consolidated Contractors Company (Kuwait branch)
- Arab Kuwait Contractors
- Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading
- Mohammed Abdulmohsin al-Kharafi & Sons
- United Gulf Construction
- Kuwait Company for Process Plant Construction
The Medical Campus, which features the College of Medicine, has a budget estimated at $550m.
The client selected a consortium of US-based Perkins Eastman and Ennead Architects, and UK firm Arup, Ted Jacob Engineering Group and the local Al-Jazeera Consultancy to undertake the College of Medicine building’s design in 2017.
Kuwait’s $9bn Kuwait University – Sabah al-Salem University masterplan aims to bring all the university faculties spread across the country under one location.
It will comprise 25 faculty buildings, a 600-bed hospital, car parks to accommodate more than 30,000 vehicles, and numerous dormitories, sports facilities and auditoriums.
MEED understands Kuwait University awarded the first contracts on the project in 2007.
