Oil minister survives no confidence vote

Kuwait has said it will help to offset a possible global oil shortage due to US sanctions on Iran, which may end up slashing the amount of Iranian oil exported.

Oil minister Bakhit al-Rashidi has said his country will work with OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers to limit impact of any possible shortage in supplies, after US President Donald Trump quit a nuclear deal with Iran.

Al-Rashidi survived a no-confidence vote that took place on Tuesday.

A total of 34 lawmakers voted in his favour and 11 voted against him.

He had been accused of allegations of financial and administrative irregularities in connection with several Kuwaiti megaprojects.

Ahead of the vote Al-Rashidi refuted the claims and insisted that the mega projects mentioned in the allegations were proceeding as per schedule.
