Kuwait's state-run oil company says it has contained a fire at an onshore oil rig in the southwest of the country.
The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) tweeted today saying that a fire broke out at a rig in Al Maqwa oil field due to a “minor leak”. An emergency team responded and was able to contain it, KOC said, without revealing when the blaze started.
The company said the accident caused no casualties or injuries and that production is continuing at the field. It did not offer an estimate as to the number of barrels of oil spilled in the leak.
In its statement, KOC acknowledged another spill at the same field earlier this month.
