Kuwait prequalifies firms for airport package

Runway and infrastructure package tendered and stalled in 2013

  • Kuwait prequalifies firms for package three of the expansion of Kuwait International Airport
  • Works involve the construction of a runway, passage, aircraft hangars and roads
  • Several foreign firms have been disqualified

The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has prequalified contractors for package three of the expansion of Kuwait International airport.

The prequalified groups for the works, which involve the construction of a runway, passage, aircraft hangars and roads, are:

  • Al-Ghanim International General Trading (local) / Larsen & Toubro (India)
  • Al-Dar Engineering & Construction (local) / Avic International Holding Corporation (China)
  • MushrifGeneral Trading (local) / Acciona Infrastructuras (Spain)
  • KCC Engineering & Contracting (local) / China Communications Construction Company (China)
  • Combined Group Contracting (local) / Sacyr Construction (Spain) / Grupo Isolux Corsan (Spain)
  • United Gulf Construction (local)/Constructora San Jose (Spain) / GS Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
  • Al-Ahmadiah Trading & Contracting (local) / Al-Naboodah Contracting (UAE)
  • Canar Trading & Contracting (local) / China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group (China) / Mapa Construction & Trade Company (Turkey)
  • Copri Construction Projects Company (local) / China Huashi Enterprises (China)
  • First Kuwaiti General Trading & Contracting (local) / IC Ictas Construction (Turkey) / Astaldi (Italy)
  • Kuwait Systems General Trading & Contracting (local) / Gengiz Insaat Sanayi Ve Ticaret (Turkey)

Several foreign firms have been disqualified and have two weeks from 28 June to file a complaint with the DGCA. The disqualified companies are:

  • Sinohydro Corporation (China)
  • China Railway 21st Bureau Group (China)
  • China Railway 18th Bureau Group (China)
  • TAV(Turkey)
  • Kolin (Turkey)
  • Turzm Sanayi (Tukey)
  • Makyol (Turkey)
  • Dogus (Turkey)
  • Hyundai Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
  • Kumho Industrial Company (South Korea)
  • Lane Middleast Contracting (US)
  • National Contracting & Transport Company (UAE)

The tendering process is expected to commence within a month following the announcement of prequalified contractors.

The project was first tendered in 2012, and was awarded to a joint venture of First Kuwaiti General Contracting and Saudi Arabia’s Almabani General Contractors. The scheme was retendered in 2014, following Almabani’s move to pull out from the project.
