Four groups to be invited to bid for power contract

Kuwait’s Electricity & Water Ministry has prequalified four groups to bid to provide and operate several mobile gas turbine units.

The following groups have been prequalified:

  • International Trading Holding Company (local)/Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (US)
  • Alghanim International General Trading and Contracting Company (local)/ General Electric (US)
  • Al Muhtarifeen Group General Trading and Contracting Company (local)/ BGT Group (US)
  • Alghanim & Sons General Trading Company (local)/ Turbomach (Switzerland)

The winning bidder will supply, test, operate and maintain the natural gas-fired units. The ministry hopes that the addition of the units will enhance the strained electricity network.

The local Matajer Al-Khaleej United General Trading and Contracting Company responded to the request for qualification (RFQ) in partnership with Oman’s Sogex, but the submission was rejected as the group did not have sufficient relevant assets to be considered.

Local companies Contractor General Trading and Contracting Company and KCC Engineering and Contracting Company also submitted a RFQ with the UK’s Aggreko and Ukraine’s Zorya Mash Proekt. The submission was rejected as the partnership did not have experience in movable gas turbines.
