31 December 2013

Work will involve supply and installation of seven substations in Jaber al-Ahmed area

Kuwait’s Central Tenders Committee (CTC) has received bids for a contract to build a number of power substations at Jaber al-Ahmed.

The CTC received bids from five companies on 22 December for the deal to build seven substations in the Jaber al-Ahmed area. These include the Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y12, Y13 and Y14 substations.

The local Al-Ahlia submitted the lowest price of KD23.5m ($83.3m), which was almost 4 per cent lower than the KD24.4m bid submitted by Saudi Arabia’s National Contracting Company (NCC), the second-lowest bidder.

The local office of India’s Larsen & Toubro submitted the third-lowest price of KD24.6m, and the bidding was concluded by the local Asil House Group for General Trading and Contracting, which submitted a bid of KD32.9m.

This is the latest of a number of contracts that the Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW) tendered for substation and distribution projects in the Jaber al-Ahmed area in 2013.

In August, five firms submitted prices to build the Y5, Y6, Y7, Y8, Y9, Y10 and Y11 substations. NCC submitted the lowest price of KD23.1m. This was marginally lower than the KD23.14m bid submitted by Al-Ahlia. Larsen & Toubro submitted the third-lowest price of KD24.3m.
