Project will increase capacity of Umm al-Hayman wastewater facility by 500,000 cubic metres a day

Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has signed the letter of award (LOA) with the selected consortium for the planned Umm al-Hayman wastewater public-private partnership (PPP) project.

MEED recently reported that KAPP had received final approvals for the project, and the client has now signed the award letter with a consortium led by Germany’s Wassertechnik and the local Kuwait International Financial Advisors at an official ceremony in Kuwait.

The project will involve the development of a 500,000 cubic-metre-a-day (cm/d) treatment plant. The project will be developed so it can be expanded to 700,000 cm/d in the future.

MEED reported in December last year that KAPP had selected the German/local consortium as the preferred bidder for the project following a competitive bidding process.

The appointed consortium will establish a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to develop the plant under a 28-year contract.

Kuwait’s Council of Ministers approved the recommendation for the contract awards in May.
