Kuwait Stock Exchange closed indefinitely

20 March 2003
The Kuwait News Agency reported on 20 March that the Kuwait Stock Exchange (KSE) will cease trading for an indefinite period following US-led air raids on Iraq earlier in the day.

'This decision has been taken to protect traders from any direct negative repercussions on the market and also to safeguard against any rumours, which usually increase in such extraordinary circumstances,' the KSE said in a statement. The main KSE index closed on 19 March at 2,796.1, its highest level in five years.
