Upgrade to pressure system for gas units at Mina al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait

State-refiner, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has issued a tender for the upgrade of its pressure protection system at the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery.

Interested firms have been given a deadline of 9 June for the deal. Documents are available for a fee of KD2,500 ($8,799). An initial guarantee of KD500,000 has also been set.

A pre-bid meeting will be held on 6 May. Enquiries must be submitted by 15 May.

The upgrade to the pressure protection system will cover gas production units at the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery.

The gas liquefaction plant was commissioned in 1978 with three trains capable of processing 560 million cubic feet a day (cf/d) each.

South Korea’s Daelim Industrial was awarded a $886m contract for the construction of a fourth train in June 2010. Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

Contractors are still awaiting a tender from KNPC for the construction of a fifth gas processing train, which is expected in April or May. Firms were invited to prequalify for the estimated $900m deal in November 2012.
