Kuwait to develop communications network

26 October 2010

Ministry requests private-sector services

Kuwait’s Communications Ministry has issued a request for qualification for the development of a communications network and telecommunications services in cooperation with the Partnerships and Technical Bureau (PTB).

The ministry is seeking qualifications from transaction advisory firms to help develop its current services and infrastructure. The ministry owns and operates a large infrastructure composed of fixed and data services. It also includes submarine and terrestrial cables, copper and fibre optics as well as satellite and microwave links.

While Kuwait’s telecommunications sector is highly developed, it still lacks an independent regulatory body. This move hopes to encourage the private sector to participate in a public-private partnership.

The deadline to put in a request is 9 December. Only consortiums comprising financial, technical and legal advisers can qualify.
