New faculty buildings will be located at the Sabah al-Salem University campus
Kuwait University has extended the bid deadline to 9 November for the contract to build the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education buildings at the new $3bn Sabah al-Salem University campus.
The previous submission date was 24 October. It is believed that the bid deadline was extended to allow more contractors to submit bids for the contract. At least 26 consortiums have prequalified for the project.
The work involves the construction of the faculty buildings and associated facilities, site improvements and landscape development. Both colleges will comprise five-storey academic buildings, faculty offices and administrative office buildings.
The College of Arts will occupy two new buildings. One will be for undergraduate males and graduate students and the other will be for undergraduate women and the faculty staff.
The two College of Arts buildings combined will cover approximately 54,000 square metres. In addition to the facilities for the Faculty of Arts, the new college building will contain general facilities to be used by students of other colleges. These facilities will include a 500-seat auditorium, a multi-purpose hall and dining facilities.
The work involves the construction of the faculty buildings and associated facilities, site improvements and landscape development.
The College of Education will also occupy two new buildings, one for males and one for females. Combined, the two buildings will cover a total area of 55,000 sq m. The male section will contain approximately 15,000 sq m, and the female department will contain about 40,000 sq m. The College of Education will also contain a 250-seat auditorium, learning resource centre and a dining facility.

The Sabah al-Salem campus will be located at Shadadiyah, 20km west of Kuwait city.
A consortium of Malaysia’s Pembinaan and the local Al-Sager General Trading & Contracting was the low bidder with a price of KD136.4m ($483m) (MEED 26:810).
