Kuwait University plans new projects

Contractors are preparing to submit bids by early July for two major contracts planned by Kuwait University. The first, estimated to be worth KD 10 million-12 million ($33 million-40 million), covers the construction of a college of marine science near the coastguard headquarters at Fintas.

The project calls for the construction of a three-storey building, a car park, infrastructure works and related services. It also includes dredging and backfilling. Nine local companies are prequalified to submit bids by 13 July.

Each company will submit a bid in association with a marine contractor. The four marine contractors prequalified are a team of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company of South Korea with the local Khalid Kharafi, and Consolidated Contractors Company (Conco), Gulf Dredging Companyand Mohamed Abdulmohsin Kharafi & Sons, all local.

The facilities, to be built over 30,000 square metres, will take about 33 months to complete. The consultant is a team of the local Gulf Consult with the US-based Cambridge 7.

The second contract, estimated to be worth KD 4 million-5 million ($13 million-17 million), covers the construction of two two-storey buildings, a car park and related works for the college of arts at Shuwaikh.

The facilities will take about 16-18 months to complete. The consultant is the local Bonyan Consultant.
