The local KGL Ports International is the low bidder, with a price of KD45m ($157m), for a contract to manufacture, supply, operate and maintain cranes at Shuwaikh Port. One other unidentified company submitted a price of KD49m.

Kuwait Ports Authority is the operator at Shuwaikh Port, the largest serving Kuwait City. It is located west of the capital in Kuwait Bay.

Kuwait is also developing a port on Bubiyan Island, north of Kuwait City. The Public Works Ministry is overseeing the project. It involves the construction of a container terminal, four berths and a 1,300-metre-long quay wall (MEED 10:8:09).
