Some members of parliament urge government to resign over flood-related chaos

Kuwait's Public Works Minister and State for Municipal Affairs Minister Hossam al-Roumi has resigned over the widespread flooding that resulted from heavy rainfall on 9 November.

MEED understands the government has yet to accept his resignation.

Schools in Kuwait remain closed on Sunday due to the floods.

On 9 and 10 November, Kuwait’s National Guard stepped in to provide four-wheel vehicles to rescue citizens and expatriates stranded in floods, especially in areas not reachable by ambulances. The National Guard also coordinated with the Defence Ministry to pump water out of the worst-hit locations, such as Al-Farwaniyah and Adan Hospital.

Al-Roumi recommended the dismissal four days earlier of Ahmed al-Hassan, head of the Public Authority for Roads & Land Transport (Part), following floods on 5 and 6 November.

Torrential rains resulted in flooded streets and damaged homes, cars and commercial buildings across Kuwait.

Some members of the parliament have requested the government to resign in the aftermath of the flooding and destroyed properties.
