Larsen & Toubro starts work on Sheikh Khalifa interchange

Interchange will be 75 kilometres from Abu Dhabi on Sheikh Rashid road

India-based Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has started construction work on an intersection on the Sheikh Rashid road in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport awarded L&T the AED592m ($161.2m) contract to build the Sheikh Khalifa interchange, which is located 75 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city on the Sheikh Rashid road leading to Dubai.

The project will involve the construction of 12km of four-to-six-lane roads with connector networks. As part of the contract, L&T will also build four bridges and a 20 metre-wide tunnel, which will be 62 metres in length.

The work will also involve landscaping and irrigation works and construction of electrical and drainage networks. The project will take two years to complete.
