Work will involve build and connecting 132kV overhead transmission line in Riyadh

India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a contract to build a 132kV overhead transmission line and connection in the Riyadh electricity network in Saudi Arabia.

The work will involve the construction of the transmission line and connection of the Al-Dawadmi substation to the 132kV Riyadh network. The work will involve the construction of a new 78-kilometre 132kV double-circuit overhead transmission line, 7km of re-conductoring an existing 132kV overhead line. The project is scheduled to take 22 months to complete.

This is the second transmission and distribution (T&D) contract that L&T has been awarded in the GCC recently. The Indian firm has also been awarded an estimated $473m contact to implement the first stage of the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation’s (Kahramaa’s) phase 11 T&D programme.

L&T will build and install 18 extra high voltage (EHV) substations and 151 kilometres of EHV cabling. The work will involve the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of gas insulated switchgear, power transformers, 220kV EHV cables, 11kV air insulated switchgear, substation systems and a direct current (DC) system.
