Larsen wins Kuwait reactor contract

India’s Larsen & Toubro has secured a $421m contract from Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) to manufacture and supply reactors for its clean fuel project.

The company’s heavy engineering division will manufacture and supply 22 hydro cracker and atmospheric residue desulphurisation reactors for the scheme, known as the Clean Fuel Project 2020.

The reactors, which will be manufactured by Larsen & Toubro at Hazira in India, are expected to be delivered to the refinery in Kuwait by the third quarter of 2010.

The Indian firm was the low-bidder at $609m for the contract to supply the reactors to KNPC as part of its multi-billion dollar refinery upgrade.

The 25-month contract covers the manufacture and supply of up to 33 reactors and pressure vessels(MEED 21:9:07).
