The International Telecommunication Union has said that Lebanon's mobile penetration rate increased to 72.2% at the end of last year, placing the country in the 12th spot in the Middle East, The Daily Star has reported. Mobile subscriptions in the country rose by 189,200 to reach 3.064 million during the first half of 2011, from 2.875 million users at the end of 2010, the ITU report added. Lebanon's fixed broadband Internet subscriptions also rallied by 43 percent in the first half of 2011 to reach 286,000, up from 200,000 at the end of 2010.
