Biography: Leo Koot worked for the UK/Dutch Shell Group from 1988 to 2000, when he joined WellDynamics, a joint venture of Shell and the US’ Halliburton.

He was appointed managing director of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company’s (Taqa’s) UK operation, Taqa Bratani, in 2007. Under Koot’s leadership, Taqa Bratani has expanded rapidly since it opened its offices in Aberdeen in 2008. It now holds an estimated $2.2bn worth of assets in the North Sea, and has committed to an $834m capital expenditure programme over the next five years.

Koot holds an MSc in petroleum engineering from Holland’s Delft University, where he specialised in well engineering.

At a 9 September conference in Aberdeen, Koot said he wanted to double the company’s UK output to 80,000 barrels a day (b/d) by 2012 from 40,000 b/d, through acquisitions and the development of existing assets.
