Libya plans airports revamp

16 November 2006
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is accelerating work on its $1,000 million programme to modernise the country's ageing airports. Bids were due on 16 November from nine companies for the $100 million construction contract to build a new passenger terminal at Benghazi Airport.

The CAA also expects to award soon the consultancy contract for the design of a new $385 million terminal at Tripoli International Airport. France's Aeoroports de Paris (ADP), Germany's Dorsch Consult and Netherlands Airport Consultants (Naco) are among the bidders for the work.

Tenders are due in late 2007 for three contracts to build new passenger and cargo terminals at Benghazi International Airport and a smaller passenger terminal at Sebha International Airport.
