Local contractor bids low for Kuwait refining services

Ten local firms bid for project services deal

Local KCC Engineering & Contracting Company (KCC) has submitted the lowest bid for an estimated $91m deal to provide project services for the project department of state refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

KCC’s bid of KD25.02m ($90.7m) beat rival proposals from nine other local firms in a 16 May bid round. Second placed Integral Services Company submitted a KD25.96m bid.

  • Al-Ratqa General Trading & Contracting (KD28.4m)

  • Kharafi National (KD28.6m)
  • Heisco (KD28.7m)
  • Syed Hamid Behbahani & Sons (KD33.2m)
  • Al-Magwa Engineering & Contracting (KD34.2m)

KNPC currently operates three refineries; Mina al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Shuaiba with a total refining capacity of 936,000 barrels a day (b/d). Since 2005 Kuwait has planned to add a fourth refinery, lifting total output to 1.4 million b/d, while expanding and rehabilitating its existing refineries. The older Shuaiba refinery will also be retired (MEED 19:5:11).
