Local contractor Hassan Allam Construction has completed an airport project in Egypt’s new Capital City development.

It is understood that Hassan Allam has completed the airport project developed by the Ministry of Defense.

The airport is a converted military base, which has been turned into a passenger airport to serve the new Capital City project.

The New Capital City project, which was announced during the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) in Sharm el-Sheikh in March last year, has been central to the government’s promises to improve living standards and press ahead with major housing, infrastructure and transport schemes.

Earlier this month, MEED reported that a second airport was also completed in Cairo. A consortium of the local Orascom Construction and state-owned Arab Contractors completed the West Cairo Airport, which will also be called the Sphinx Airport. The project was also a conversion of a military base developed by the Ministry of Defense.

Google maps images show the airport has one runway with local sources saying that the complex will serve small and chartered flights. The airport is in the western area of Cairo near the Sixth of October city area.
