Boom General Construction wins contract to upgrade Doha’s Al-Khor park
Qatar’s Boom General Construction has won a $57m contract to upgrade Doha’s Al-Khor Park.
The Department of Building affairs awarded the deal in early March. Boom is scheduled to start construction at the 240,000-square-metre site of the existing park at Al-Khor by 15 April.
The contract covers an upgrade to the buildings and structures on the site to an unspecified level of eco-friendliness.
The scope of the deal includes the demolition and removal of the existing administration building, restaurant, toilets, water features, playground equipment and gazebos at the park.
Dismantling work onsite includes removal of existing paving, benches, drinking fountains and lighting, as well as clearing the site of waste and debris from demolition. The contract also stipulates the dismantling of existing roads, footpaths and car park.
The new park will include the following structures and amenities:
· Restaurant (1,425 sq m)
· Mosque (452 sq m)
· Three public toilets (120 sq m each)
· Two retail kiosks (28 sq m each)
· Two ticket booths (27 sq m each)
· Museum (1176 sq m)
· Animal farm (1335 sq m)
· Bird aviary (2936 sq m)
· Amphitheatre (158 sq m)
· Two administration blocks (97 sq m each)
· Gazebos and other shaded structures
· Hard and soft landscaping
