Local firms clean up as Saudi ministry awards road deals

The Transport Ministry has awarded a host of nationwide road contracts totalling more than SR 1,700 million ($453 million). All of the contracts were won by local firms.

The largest contract, worth SR 600 million ($160 million), went to Bin Jarallah, and involves the construction of a six-lane highway between Shuqaiq and Jizan over 36 months. Bin Jarallah also picked up an SR 81.8 million ($21.8 million) contract to build agricultural roads in the Mecca region. The Al-Haramain Company was awarded a further SR 46 million ($12.2 million) contract for agricultural roads in the same area. Rio Trading & Contracting won a SR 200 million ($53.3 million) contract for the fourth part of the Hail-Medina road, while Saudi Binladin Group will build the first phase of the Medina ring road for SR 100 million ($26.6 million). Other contracts, worth a total of almost SR 713 million ($190 million), were awarded to companies for projects that include agricultural roads in the Assir, Tabuk and Joaf regions, and the Eastern Province; the first phase of a road between Rass and Dukhna; an intersection at the King Fahd International airport at Dammam, and the completion of work on roads in the Qassim, Hail and Joaf regions. The Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu has also awarded a SR 42.34 million ($11.29 million) contract to Wartha Abdul Rahman Al-Namlah Company for Contracting to expand the King Abdul Aziz Road in Yanbu.
