Local JV wins Atlantis piling contract

The local joint venture (JV) of Emtechand APCChas been awarded the Atlantis piling contract. The $1,100 million Atlantis resort is being developed on the crescent of Palm Jumeirah by the JV of Bahamas-based Kerzner Internationaland the local Istithmar. Work is scheduled to start on 15 November.

The piling package is the first construction package to be awarded on Atlantis and follows completion of two pre-construction contracts by the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourkeand the local/Australian Leighton Emtech. Further awards are expected soon on the project, which involves the construction of two luxury hotels, an entertainment village and conference centre, and the region's largest water park (MEED 24:6:05).

Canada's NORR Group Consultants Internationalis the design, structural, mechanical and electrical consultant; the UK's K Home Internationalis providing project management services.
