The UK's LogicaCMGhas been awarded its second contract for text messaging services in Iraq. The company was selected by Atheer Telecom Iraq, the consortium that has the two-year licence to provide GSM services in the south. LogicaCMG signed a similar deal in January with Asia-Cell, the consortium that has the licence to offer GSM mobile phone services in northern Iraq.
The Atheer consortium is led by Kuwait's Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC)and includes the local Dijla Telecommunications Corporationand Kuwait-based Kharafi Group(see above, 16:1:04).
