Two crew-members injured in crash of flight bound for Hong Kong

A Lufthansa cargo plane has crashed in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, on its way from Frankfurt in Germany to Hong Kong.

Flight LH 8460 crashed in Riyadh at around 11.38am local time on 27 July. The two crew members piloting the plane are being treated in hospital, according to an initial press release from the German airline Lufthansa.

The freighter was on a flight from Frankfurt to Hong Kong with stopovers in Riyadh and Sharjah. The plane is severely damaged, but a fire has been extinguished, said Lufthansa in a press statement issued on 27 July.

The plane was carrying approximately 80 tonnes of freight. Information on the type of freight or which customers are affected is not yet available.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
