According to Gurjit Singh, chief property development officer at the developer Sorouh Properties, once the masterplan is completed, it will be presented to Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council for approval.
Following this, he says that Sorouh will begin to sell small plots on the development.
Located north of Abu Dhabi corniche, the six-kilometre-long man-made island was opened to the public in April 2007 using a ferry service.
Although it is largely undeveloped, it has several restaurants and cafes, mosques, a racetrack for horses and camels, and artificial lakes set against beaches and sand dunes (MEED 11:5:08).
