Dubai-based Mammut Group has started work on the AED500m ($136m) design and build contract for more than 140 villas and 850 apartments at Dubai Waterfront.

The Badrah district project is expected to be finished in 12 to 18 months.

The Mammut Group is one of the Middle East's largest industrial contracting and manufacturing companies specialising in the manufacture of pre-engineered steel and pre-cast concrete.

Located to the west of Dubai near Jebel Ali, the site covers 130 square kilometres, with a projected population of 1.4 million people.

According to Matthew Joyce, managing director of the project, infrastructure work is 40 per cent complete on Madinat Arab, the first phase of the Waterfront (MEED 4:3:08).
