Great Lakes Dredge & Dock wins $26m contract

Local real estate developer Manara Developments has awarded US-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company an estimated BD10m ($26m) contract for dredging work on its BD377m Nurana development.

The deal involves the dredging and reclamation of 3 million cubic metres of material that will be used to make a 2-million-square-metre waterfront development to the north of the Seef district, overlooking the Bahrain Fort.

Manara is working on designs for residential homes, retail space, hotels and office buildings. The masterplan also includes community spaces including waterways, pedestrian promenades, mosques, landscaped areas and parks.

Manara Developments is owned by Bahrain’s Al-Salam Bank.

In June, Manara Developments awarded Great Lakes a $4m contract for dredging and reclamation work at its BD80m Wahat al-Muharraq project. The 170,000 sq m development includes villas and local community shops.

Great Lakes is also working on the first phase of the dredging for the BD1.2bn Diyar al-Muharraq project. Work covers dredging and reclamation of 12 square kilometres of land close to the Amwaj islands development and Bahrain International airport. Diyar al-Muharraq is the client (MEED 27:6:09).
