Manco wins big in Mesaieed

The local Manco International General Contractinghas been awarded a QR 163 million ($44.7 million) contract by Qatar Petroleum (QP)to carry out the phase 2 upgrade of the Mesaieed tank farm. The engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract is one of the largest awards made by QP to a local contractor.

Over 20 local and international companies submitted bids for the contract, which centres on the demolition of existing crude oil tanks and the construction of six new ones. Each floating-roof tank will be 60 metres in diameter and 19 metres high. Manco will also install an additional oil loading pump and a new control building and upgrade existing infrastructure at the tank farm. The contract is due to be completed in July 2007.

Having recently completed the refurbishment of 15 tanks at the site, the contract renews Manco's involvement at the Mesaieed tank farm. The contractor is also building 14 tanks for Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company II (RasGas II)as part of the train 3 project at Ras Laffan.

Covering the construction of process tanks and a condensate storage tank, the order was placed by the Japanese/ Italian/local main contractor, comprising Chiyoda Corporation, Mitsui & Company, Snamprogettiand the Almana Group(MEED 4:10:02).
