Former Deutsche Bank executive Manson to steer bank’s wholesale business in Middle East and Africa

UK bank Standard Chartered has appointed Alex Manson as its group head of Wholesale Banking Geographies for the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Manson will steer Standard Chartered’s wholesale business in each region and will focus on driving revenues and organic growth.

Manson joins Standard Chartered from Deutsche Bank, where he spent 12 years in various management positions, most recently as global head of Corporate Banking Coverage & Global Lending, and head of Global Banking Coverage in Asia Pacific.

Commenting on the appointment, Mike Rees, Standard Chartered group executive director and chief executive officer of Wholesale Banking, said Manson’s “strong geographic and industry knowledge will support the continued growth of our business, as we continue to deepen our strategy across our markets and focus on business delivery, governance and strategy”.

Standard Chartered’s dealings in the Middle East have come under the spotlight in recent months, with US investigators charging the bank with concealing $250bn of illegal transactions involving Iranian clients. The bank agreed to pay $340m in fines earlier this month relating to the charges.
