Market attack kills eight

A mortar attack on 25 September in Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, killed eight and injured 15 others, announced the US military. The incident happened in the town's market. All the victims of the latest attack are believed to be Iraqis. A US military spokesman said that no one had been arrested for the attack.

The incident came hours after eight US soldiers were wounded when their convoy was attacked near Mosul, northern Iraq. According to reports, roadside bombs were detonated as the vehicles passed the attackers, after which the soldiers were fired on. Ricardo Sanchez, US commander in Iraq, pledged to bring to justice those who had attacked the coalition troops.
