Turkish firm will expand Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk power plants
Jordans Mass Group Holding has awarded contracts to Turkeys Enka for the expansion of two power plants in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Enka will convert the 1,000MW Sulaymaniyah power plant from simple-cycle to combined-cycle production, increasing production capacity to 1,500MW, according to sources close to the project.
The firm will also convert and expand the 875MW Dohuk power plant, adding another 500MW.
The value of the contract has not been revealed.
Mass Global currently has three power plants in the Kurdistan region, producing 2,875MW, from simple-cycle production.
The Erbil power plant is currently under conversion by Enka and commercial production at 1,500MW is expected in August 2014. The Sulaymaniyah conversion is expected to be completed by September 2015 and Dohuk by the middle of 2016.
Once the three projects are commissioned, Mass Globals total generation capacity in the Kurdish region will stand at 4,375MW, up 52 per cent.
