US contractor to carry out additional work in Neutral Zone

Al-Khafji Joint Operations (KJO), the operating unit for offshore oil and gas fields in the Neutral Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait has awarded the US’ McDermott a contract amendment for the Hout field.

The amendment includes the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a new platform as well as two bridges with a combined weight of 3,300 tonnes. Modifications to existing facilities is also included in the contract.

McDermott was awarded the Hout scheme in 2012 and the original scope included the EPC of a tripod jacket, deck and flare tower and a 41 kilometre 24-inch subsea pipeline. The company also carried out some modifications of existing facilities.

Hout is located 41 kilometres east of Al-Khafji and has not been operational since 2005.
