The MEED Quality Awards for Projects, in association with Ernst & Young, returns in 2013 to honour the best regional projects from the past 12 months
In 2010, MEED launched the Quality Awards for Projects, an initiative aimed at recognising the personnel responsible for the best quality projects recently completed across the GCC region. According to regional projects tracker MEED Projects, more than $1.2 trillion-worth of new projects are scheduled to be delivered in the GCC over the next decade.
The awards honour project teams that demonstrate a commitment to quality, from planning and design stages through to the completion stage. Submissions for the 2013 awards programme are now being sought.
The awards programme is the first in the GCC to recognise completed projects and is distinguished from rival events in that it evaluates the outcome of the construction process, rather than the process itself.
National winners are selected by an independent panel of judges with the support of the Society of Engineers in each GCC country. The programme benchmarks winning projects against others in their respective sectors. The awards programme culminates with a gala event each year that honours national award winners and the overall regional winner.
In 2012, the massive Pearl GTL complex in Qatar was named GCC Quality Project of the Year in association with Ernst & Young, while other regional winners included Emirates Aluminium Smelter Complex for GCC Industrial Project of the Year, and the Nimr Produced Water Treatment Project in Oman, which won the GCC Sustainable Project of the Year award.
Each winner was chosen for its contribution to its national economy and the region as a whole, its environmental and commercial sustainability, as well as its overall achievement in engineering, design and construction.
