Messilah beach project goes for bid

Bids are due to be returned by 17 March for the contract to build a new five-star seafront hotel at Messilah, southeast of Kuwait City (MEED 3:1:03; 25:10:02).

Six groups of local and international companies are prequalified to price the estimated KD 20 million ($65 million) contract (MEED 10:1:03).

The project will be carried out in five packages over 33 months. Package 1 will cover the construction of a 308-room hotel, 78 service apartments, 17 independent two-bedroom chalets, a wedding hall with capacity for 2,000 people, three restaurants, a two-level car park and related facilities. The other packages will include marine works and the supply and installation of kitchen equipment and furnishings and fittings.

The design consultant is the US' Skidmore Owings & Merrill, with the local Gulf Consult; the project manager is the UK's EC Harris. The client is the local Al-Azizah General Trading & Contracting Company.
