Microsoft is conducting a research project looking at life after Windows. Code-named Midori, it is investigating the use of a cut-down operating system that is not tied to a single computer. The BBC reports that Midori is being developed because Windows cannot cope with the changing pace of technology and how it is used by people, particularly as they expect their devices and data to be more mobile. Microsoft issued a statement saying that "Midori is one of many incubation projects underway" and that it is "too early in the incubation to talk about it".
